How does interactive gaming work?
Sensors in the room detect where a player is standing, when they jump or where they touch the wall. Projectors cast the game onto the floor or wall, and the image reacts to that movement instantly. You step into the game without a controller, screen or headset: the tile you step on lights up, the target you touch bursts, the obstacle you dodge falls behind you.
At XPZONE the technology comes in three forms: motion-sensing interactive floors, projection-based interactive walls, and mixed-reality rooms where physical movement meets the digital world.
How is it different from VR?
In virtual reality each player wears a headset and their field of view is closed off inside a digital world. Everyone plays inside their own headset, so you cannot make eye contact with the person next to you, and the equipment takes time to fit and clean.
In interactive gaming your eyes stay open. You see your friend, your child, your teammate. You win together and lose together. Without a headset, getting into a game is quick; the rules make sense within seconds.
Who is it for?
Because the games are played through movement, there is no learning curve. The games at XPZONE cater to ages 7 to 70; they are played by 2 to 6 people. A game lasts 4–5 minutes.
That makes interactive gaming a good fit for families playing together, friends competing, birthday parties, school trips and corporate team events.
Which games are at XPZONE?
XPZONE has 29 different games, developed for XPZONE by INFINIA, an engineering company founded in 2012. In Hexball, for example, each player guards one side of a hexagon projected onto the wall and uses their body to keep the ball out of their goal.
